Little Stoke Scouts learn ‘skills for life’ on camp

1st Little Stoke Scouts ready to set off for summer camp.

The Scouts at Little Stoke have returned from their week long summer camp at Parc le Breos on the Gower in South Wales. Twenty boys and girls from the troop have had a fun, action packed and enjoyable week. Activities included fishing, horse riding, surfing, swimming, a visit to Oakwood Leisure Park and avoiding a wash for most of the week!

The weather was brilliant and most of the time was spent outside in the fresh air. The evenings were spent playing in the woods and enjoying campfires.

The troop travelled to the camp in a minibus kindly lent by St Bede’s Catholic College, while parents helped with the loan of vans to get equipment to the campsite. This enabled the group to provide the camp at a cost of £150 inclusive of all transport, food and activities.

This type of activity is a regular part of our programme which gives children ‘skills for life’. This is a strategy that supports and empowers both young people and volunteers. It’s a strategy to bring communities together and contribute towards a better society.

Bear Grylls, Chief Scout, says: “Every child has the right to an adventure. Life is about grabbing opportunities. The prizes don’t always go to the biggest, the best and the strongest – they go to those who persevere. These are simple life lessons that Scouting teaches.”

The group is now very nearly full, but we are always willing to take new children if their parents are willing to help with any of the sections. We have three sections, Beavers 5.9 years to 8 years, Cubs 8 years to 10 years, and Scouts 10 years to 14.5 years. We meet at our own purpose-built HQ within the park on Little Stoke Lane, Little Stoke. If you or your child would like to join the adventure, please call Tony Edmonds, Group Scout Leader on 07957 880503.
