President Sue Grimstead welcomed members and guests Valerie Mead, Lillian Clark, Wendy Rimell and Sue Gibbs to the September meeting of the Stoke Gifford WI, writes Carolyn Snell.

Our speaker for the evening was Emma Britton from BBC Radio Bristol. Emma told us of her varied career, and how she took keep fit classes for many years, before starting her broadcasting career with Radio Somerset in 2007, and later moving to Radio Bristol for the breakfast show in 2015.

She kept us all thoroughly entertained with many hilarious stories about her career in broadcasting, and how she is now in training for the ‘Couch to 5k’ to raise funds for the Radio Bristol Alive Appeal.

The campaign is hoping to raise £50,000 to create 300 sessions to change the lives of older people in the Bristol, Somerset and South Gloucestershire areas.

Emma is unable to accept payment as a speaker, so we have made a donation to the Radio Bristol Alive Appeal. We also presented Emma with a bag containing homemade jam and cakes, and a doggy treat for Billy, her pet beagle.

Our next meeting with be on Wednesday 7th November at 7.30pm at the Trust Hall, North Road, Stoke Gifford. This will be our annual general meeting (AGM) as well as having social time and a game of beetle drive! You will find a warm welcome, so please come along and join us.
