Two men from Little Stoke have been arrested after police received a call about a “suspicious  incident” near the Tesco supermarket in Thornbury on Sunday (16th December).

When police arrived, a van made off and failed to stop for officers. A vehicle was stopped by police in Almondsbury soon afterwards and two men were arrested for failing to stop for officers and on suspicion of going equipped to steal.

A 22-year-old man from Little Stoke was later charged with driving offences including driving dangerously, driving while disqualified and failing to stop for police officers.

Another man aged 22, also from Little Stoke, was charged with breach of bail.

They were both due to appear before Northavon Magistrates today (Tuesday 18th December).

Two men remain on police bail pending further enquiries into going equipped.

The incident happened the day after ‘Billy the Burglar’ – really a local police officer – visited Thornbury on Saturday morning, offering advice to shoppers on “how to have the Christmas you deserve and keep burglars at bay”.

Neighbourhood PC Natalie Draper said:

“Billy was helping us pass on our key messages to help people to keep their property safe: always lock up, whether it’s your home or car; mark your property with your postcode; register it at www.immobilise.com and call us straight away if you suspect someone is in your neighbourhood looking to commit crime.”

“We are always grateful for calls from members of the public alerting us to suspicious activity. I’d always say if you’re in any doubt give us a shout.”
