Witness appeal following attempted robbery near Braydon Avenue, Little Stoke

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was the victim of an attempted robbery in Little Stoke.

A 14-year-old boy was out walking his dog when he was approached from behind by a man.

The man demanded the boy hand over his phone before hitting him several times in the face. The boy pushed the man over and he then ran off empty-handed in the direction of the doctors’ surgery.

The incident happened on the footpath near Braydon Avenue at approximately 6pm on Friday 27th May.

The man is described as white, aged in his early 20s, approximately 5ft 10ins and of skinny build. He was wearing a black jacket, grey trousers and grey and black Nike trainers.

Five arrested after robbery at McColl’s store in Little Stoke

Police have arrested five people in connection with an armed robbery at a convenience store in Little Stoke last week.

Officers were called to McColl’s on Kingsway last Tuesday (15th July), at around 10.45pm.

The suspects fled from the scene in a car, which is believed to have been stolen and was later found burnt out nearby.

Officers later arrested two women and three men, all in their 20s, in connection with the incident.

A police spokesperson later confirmed that the robbers had been armed with a knife.

The latest incident at the McColl’s store follows one in October 2012 in which a man armed with a knife threatened staff before making off with money and cigarettes.

Security guard robbed outside Tesco Express in Ratcliffe Drive

A security guard was assaulted outside the Tesco Express convenience store in Ratcliffe Drive, Stoke Gifford earlier today (Monday 28th October).

A cash box was grabbed from the guard and two suspects left the scene.

It is believed the guard was in the process of topping up the cashpoint machine at the store.

Police say they would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information that could help with enquiries.

They would particularly like to know whether the suspects arrived or left in a car.

Anyone able to help is asked to contact police at Staple Hill on the force number 101.

The incident was reported to the police at 1.23pm. It was witnessed by South Gloucestershire councillor Ben Walker, who tweeted:

“Cash point robbery @ #tesco Stoke Gifford. Just happened! Guard topping up cash point mugged by 2 people with a large knife.”

He later added:

“Pretty grim. All over in a minute. Looked like they either followed the van or were waiting. Well thought out.”

Police have not confirmed that a weapon was used in the incident.

UPDATE from Avon and Somerset Police (30th October): We believe the offenders left the area in a silver M reg Vauxhall Astra which was in Beaufort Crescent. Items were thrown from the car and found in Hambrook Lane.

Police seek witnesses following Little Stoke armed robbery

A police investigation is underway following a robbery in which shop staff were threatened with a knife.

The robbery occurred at around 9:20pm last night (Thursday 25th October) at McColl’s in Little Stoke. A man entered the shop armed with a knife and demanded money. He was given money and cigarettes and left the shop.

Avon and Somerset Police say they are conducting enquiries to identify the offender and recover the stolen property.

The suspect was wearing a grey waist-length coat which was zipped up, light-coloured trousers, black gloves and grey trainers with a pink or purple circle at the back of the heel.

Anyone with information about the robbery should contact DC Claire Chipping of South Gloucestershire CID on 101. Alternatively, phone the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 (they never ask your name or trace your call).

The incident is the latest in a number of robberies to have occurred in the Patchway and Stokes area over the past three weeks:
