Photos included in our earliest posts are generally only 450 pixels (px) wide, which seems tiny by today’s standards. This was due to the constraints of low screen resolution, poor download speeds and restricted webserver disk space that existed at the time.
From April 2012 photos were uploaded to the website at 800px wide. Although still displayed initially at 450px wide, clicking on an image results in the full resolution version being displayed in a pop-up ‘lightbox’. This behaviour is of most benefit on a large screen device such as a desktop or laptop computer.
Following the introduction of a ‘responsive’ website layout in May 2020, photos were uploaded to the website at 900px wide. Photos included in posts created after this date automatically expand to a maximum width of 875px.
Unless otherwise indicated, all images used on the website and in the Photo Gallery are copyright and permission must be sought before reuse elsewhere (other than through official social media link shares and embeds).
High-resolution versions of almost all images used on the website and in the Photo Gallery are available on request, for which a small administration charge may be levied. Commercial use will additionally incur a licence fee.
