A ‘walking bus’ sets off from Crest Nicholson’s Brooklands Park development, heading to St Michael’s Primary School.

Local housebuilder Crest Nicholson recently partnered with St Michael’s Primary School, Stoke Gifford, on a ‘walking bus’ initiative as part of Walk to School Week.

Pupils, parents, guardians, carers, teachers and staff of the school took part in two walking buses on Thursday 18th May 2023, that began at Crest Nicholson’s Highbrook View and Brooklands Park developments in Harry Stoke.

The two walking buses, which saw young pupils chaperoned on the walk to school, took separate routes to collect a number of pupils en route. Crest Nicholson donated high visibility jackets for the pupils of St Michael’s to ensure they could be kept safe along the walk.

The walking bus was designed to encourage families from Brooklands Park and Highbrook View to take the daily school run or commute on foot rather than in the car. The initiative, part of Walk to School Week, helped children reach their recommended 60 minutes minimum of physical activity per day before even reaching the school gates.

Clare Brimble, sales and marketing director at Crest Nicholson South West, comments:

“We were pleased to see so many happy faces from St Michael’s school enjoying their walk to school and socialising with their peers last week.”

“We have many families from the school who live on the development and commute to St Michael’s. It was great to see everyone learning about all the safe walking routes throughout the development that easily link to the wider community of Stoke Gifford, whilst getting to know nearby residents and other families at the school.”

Chris Keating at St Michael’s School said:

“We were delighted to work with Crest Nicholson to encourage local families to embrace a walk to school. There are so many excellent pathways throughout the development and it was a fun, social atmosphere for the children, parents and staff. Following the success of the walk we hope many will choose to walk to school more often, especially throughout the summer months.”

St Michael’s Primary School, which is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted, is located under 1.5 miles from the Highbrook View development and caters for pupils from Reception to Year 6.
