Aldi opened its tenth store in Bristol today, Thursday 13th June 2024, with the launch of its Stoke Gifford branch within the new mixed-use development on Fox Den Road (behind Sainsbury’s). The store opened at 8am with ParalympicsGB swimming gold medallist Stephanie Millward cutting the ribbon alongside pupils from St Michael’s CofE Primary School.

Little Stoke Primary School has been recognised as ‘outstanding’ in its support of cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel. A public consultation has opened on plans to upgrade a pedestrian crossing on New Road, Stoke Gifford, in the vicinity of a number of education establishments. The proposed scheme is to provide a parallel crossing on the existing raised platform across New Road and widen the existing pedestrian/cyclist route between Brierly Furlong and New Road.

Stoke Gifford’s new Aldi store, located on a newly developed mixed-used site at Fox Den Road (behind Sainsbury’s), is due to open on Thursday 13th June 2024. A Costa drive-through became the first unit on the site to begin trading when it opened its doors in early April. Other businesses on the development that will be opening soon are a Premier Inn and a Beefeater restaurant.

The Sort It waste disposal and recycling centre in Station Road, Little Stoke, is to see its gates remain closed for two weeks from Monday (15th April) to allow essential repairs to be carried out. South Gloucestershire Council says the temporary closure is needed in order to “replace the floor of the site.” The site is due to reopen on Saturday 27th April.

A local GP practice has submitted plans to increase its internal floorspace by more than a third, by adding extra floors to its existing building. Concord Medical Centre, in Braydon Avenue, Little Stoke, wants to add one extra floor to two wings of the building, increasing the gross internal floorspace by 38.6 percent. The number of off-road car parking spaces provided would remain unchanged.

Police are seeking witnesses to a robbery that took place in Little Stoke Park last month. Sometime between 6.30pm and 7pm on Friday 12th January, two unknown offenders threatened the juvenile victim with bladed weapons and stole his electric Sur-Ron bike. The victim sustained no physical injury.

Three arrests have been made after a teenager was reportedly stabbed and robbed in Little Stoke Park last night (Wednesday 7th February). Police attended the incident alongside paramedics after witnesses reported a boy had been attacked by a group of three people, one of whom had a knife, and had his bike and mobile phone stolen.

Officers at South Glos Council have recommended approval of a planning application for the final two phases of a 1,200-dwelling housing development in Harry Stoke. However, a decision on the application will now be made by a committee of councillors after Stoke Gifford ward member Neel Das Gupta successfully invoked the ‘call in’ procedure.
