Further closures of Gipsy Patch Lane in June & July

Further road resurfacing and maintenance work is set to take place along Gipsy Patch Lane later this month (June) and over the first weekend in July. A full closure will take place overnight on Monday 20th June. This will be followed by one-way closures over the weekends of Friday 24th June to Monday 27th June and Friday 1st July to Monday 4th July.

No train services from Bristol Parkway on three Sundays in June

Rail passengers are being warned of disruption due to planned engineering works taking place in the Bristol area on Sundays 12th, 19th and 26th June 2022. Network Rail will replace tracks between Swindon and Patchway as well as carry out essential maintenance on the lines near Gloucester. This means that no train services can run via Bristol Parkway on these dates.

Stoke Gifford residents create ‘knitted Queen’ to mark Platinum Jubilee

A group of residents at Stoke Gifford Retirement Village, off Coldharbour Lane, have spent nearly 200 hours creating a knitted effigy of the Queen to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. The figure was guest of honour at afternoon tea on Sunday (5th June 2022) as the 230 residents at the village came together to celebrate.

WI branch contributes to ‘Queen’s Green Canopy’

Members of Stoke Gifford WI assembled in Royal Park, Stoke Gifford on Saturday 30th April to attach a plaque to a tree they had planted late last year to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. They decided to plant a tree as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, which invites people from across the United Kingdom to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’.

Village Fête returns after two-year break

Stoke Gifford’s popular Village Fête returns on Bank Holiday Friday 3rd June, following a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The event takes place between 2pm and 5pm at the Trust Grounds, North Road. There will be music, entertainment, donkey rides, bouncy castles, teacup rides, stalls, sideshows, games and refreshments.

Begbrook Green Bowls Big Weekend 28th-29th May

Begbrook Green Bowling Club, located in Frenchay Park Road, Stapleton, is holding free open days on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May. They are intended for people to come along and give bowls a try. All you need is a flat pair of shoes, and we’ll provide the rest, writes Ken Maynard.

First Bus announced as operator of new Parkway to Cribbs ‘M4’ MetroBus service

First West of England has been announced as the operator of a planned new MetroBus service on the soon-to-be-completed Cribbs Patchway MetroBus Extension. Buses are expected to start running on the route between Bristol Parkway Station and The Mall at Cribbs Causeway in “spring 2023”.

IKEA modular housing scheme turned down by South Glos planners

A planning application from a company part-owned by IKEA to build 48 low-cost modular homes at a site just off the Stoke Gifford By-Pass has been refused permission by officials at South Gloucestershire Council after they raised concerns over the potential for harm to priority habitats, landscape character, trees and protected species.

Gipsy Patch Lane reopened both ways … What next?

Gipsy Patch Lane may have fully reopened for the first time in over two years, but there are further road closures to come, warns South Gloucestershire Council. These are associated with the resurfacing of the widened highway west of the bridge and remedial work on the railway embankment near the Station Road junction.
