One of the new MetroBus stop shelters installed over a year ago on Gipsy Patch Lane has had to be almost completely dismantled and reinstalled due to a design oversight. The work was deemed necessary after it was discovered that there was a “small risk” of vehicles coming into contact with the rear of the shelter’s roof (on the service road side).

The junction of Station Road with Gipsy Patch Lane is to remain closed to motor vehicles into the new year due to overrunning remedial work on the adjacent railway embankment. South Glos Council originally said it expected the work to be completed by 21st December, but signs at the site are now stating that the road closure will last until 19th January.

Work has started on the construction of a major new hotel and retail development near the existing Sainsbury’s store in Stoke Gifford. The multi-million pound project will see the construction of a Premier Inn, Beefeater restaurant, Aldi supermarket and a Costa Coffee drive-through on the land at Fox Den Road.

The new M4 MetroBus service on the Cribbs Patchway MetroBus Extension route is to start running on Sunday 22nd January 2023, First West of England has announced. Although originally specified as a link between The Mall at Cribbs Causeway and Bristol Parkway, the new service will in fact extend onwards to Bristol city centre via the University of the West of England.

South Glos Council has tunnelled the length of 80 metres under a section of the A4174 Ring Road in Stoke Gifford to replace a badly damaged drainage pipe, three metres below the road surface. The £500,000 scheme is being delivered to prevent water from the pipe undermining the busy arterial road above and causing significant disruption to road users and residents.

Police are appealing for witnesses following reports of a man engaging in sexual activity in an area of recreational open space in Stoke Gifford. The incident took place in Forty Acres on Friday 11th November at around 3.20pm. The local neighbourhood policing team has increased its high visibility patrols in the area.

The southern end of Station Road in Little Stoke is to be closed to motorised traffic for up to one month to allow remedial work to be carried out on the railway embankment adjacent to the new Gipsy Patch Lane bridge. The road closure was originally advertised as starting from Monday 14th November but is now expected to begin next Monday (21st November).

A 31-year-old man has been jailed for more than two years following a spate of burglaries and thefts at a number of locations across the Stokes. The court heard how between July and September this year, the defendant stole work tools, TVs and other items from vehicles and sheds in the Cheswick Village, Stoke Gifford and Bradley Stoke areas.
