Disruptive three-way temporary traffic signals on North Road, Stoke Gifford, look set to be in operation for another four weeks, the Journal can reveal.

Wales & West Utilities, who are carrying out work to “upgrade the gas network in Stoke Gifford”, say the scheme is “essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come”.

The roadworks are located at the Hatchet Road end of North Road (near the Beaufort Arms) and the area of traffic control stretches from the junction with Hatchet Lane / The Green to the mini-roundabout on Hatchet Road.

The company says it has liaised with South Gloucestershire Council and reports that it has been agreed that three-way traffic lights will be in place on North Road until Friday 19th August 2022.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travelling time while the lights are in operation.

Wales & West Utilities’ Ross O’Donnell, who is managing this gas pipe upgrade work, said:

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Stoke Gifford. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”

“We will work as safely and as quickly as possible to finish the work, whilst keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.”
