Abbeywood Community School’s Post-16 students celebrate “great” results

Students at Abbeywood Community School are celebrating some “great” achievements in A-level and vocational qualifications following the publication of assessment results earlier today (Thursday 17th August 2023).

The school reports that several students have been successful in gaining places at Russell Group universities, including three at Oxbridge.

A number of students have secured prestigious degree apprenticeships in the Royal Navy and with companies such as GKN, Airbus, the National Composites Centre and ISG Global Construction.

Headteacher Ben Dilley expressed his pride in the students’ achievements:

“Our students have demonstrated great resilience and determination throughout their time at Abbeywood and they have delivered with some great results. I am delighted that our specialism in engineering is a leading light and the work we have been doing with local partners has made such a positive difference to student opportunities and outcomes. I would like to thank our partners and extend my thanks to our dedicated staff, who set high standards and supported students to fulfil their potential. We would like to wish everyone receiving their results today every success in whatever they choose to do next.”

Assistant headteacher Phil Rouet added:

“Congratulations to all of the students with results that reflect their hard work and dedication to their studies. We are thrilled that so many of our students will be moving onto ambitious and challenging advanced apprenticeships with leading companies in the engineering industry. It is such a pleasure to see such a varied range of degree courses across many universities. Congratulations to them all.”

Notable successes

Notable individual achievements highlighted by the school are:

  • Kamika Carty, who achieved 3Dist* (Triple Engineering), and is starting an advanced degree apprenticeship with the Royal Navy.
  • Damien Akers, who achieved 3Dist* (Triple Engineering), and has secured full time employment in the engineering sector.
  • Sam Lillywhite, who achieved 3Dist* (Triple Engineering), and will be moving onto a degree apprenticeship at ISG Construction.
  • Jacob Roberts, who achieved 3Dist* (Triple Engineering), and will be studying for a degree in Aerospace Engineering at UWE.
  • Jacob Silverthorne, who achieved 3A* (Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics) and 1A (Computing), and will study Mathematics at Warwick University.
  • Joshua Ejovi, who achieved 2A*s (Mathematics, Physics) and 1A (Chemistry), and will study Engineering Science at the University of Oxford.
  • Jake Heathcote, who achieved 1A* (Religious Studies), 2As (Classical Civilization, English Language) and 1B (Extended Project), and will study Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic Studies at the University of Cambridge.
  • Katie-Mae Wheeler, who achieved 1A* (Criminology), 1Dist*(Health & Social Care), 1A (English Language) and 1B (Extended Project), and will study Psychology at Cardiff University.
  • Harry Nicholson, who achieved Dist* (Business Studies), 2A (Mathematics, Extended Project), 1Dist (Engineering), and will study Business Management at the University of Reading.
  • Marianna Baker, who achieved 1A* (Mathematics), 1A (Physics) and 1B (Further Mathematics), and will be studying Mathematics at Exeter University.
  • Grace Crompton, who achieved 2A (English Language, History) and 1B (English Literature), and will be studying English at the University of Bristol.
  • Caitlin Hanna, who achieved 2Dist* and 1Dist (Triple Engineering), and will be studying for a degree in Aerospace Engineering.
  • Jamie Smitheram, who achieved 2Dist* and 1Dist (Triple Engineering), who will be working in the engineering sector next year.
  • Joe Kendall, who achieved 2Dist* and 1Dist (Triple Engineering), who is moving to an apprenticeship with Belcan.
