Detectives investigating a series of arson attacks on vehicles in north Bristol in the early hours of yesterday (Sunday 3rd April) have renewed an appeal for information. An initial review of CCTV footage from the area suggests that two people were responsible for the attacks, however the police stress that they are still keen to hear from local residents.

The police and fire services are investigating after up to 20 vehicles were deliberately set on fire overnight in the Stokes and Patchway areas. The incident locations include New Road and Gatcombe Drive in Stoke Gifford, the Rolls-Royce site in Patchway, the car park at Little Stoke Park and the car park of the Jubilee Centre, Bradley Stoke.

The wholesale felling of trees around a large parcel of vacant land behind the Sainsbury’s store in Stoke Gifford has exposed the site of new mixed-use development that will include an Aldi supermarket, a Costa drive-through, a Premier Inn hotel and a Beefeater restaurant. Construction is now set to begin “in the second quarter of 2022”

An initial round of public consultation has shown strong support for a proposal to create a new parish council for Cheswick Village and Stoke Park. A report shows that 86 percent of 110 respondents agreed that splitting the areas from Stoke Gifford and creating a new parish council would “give the community a stronger voice”.

A 33-year-old man from Little Stoke has been cleared of causing criminal damage to a statue of 17th century slave trader Edward Colston. The bronze monument was toppled from its plinth and dumped into Bristol harbour during a Black Lives Matter protest in June 2020.
