Little Stoke Primary School’s Key Stage 1 pupils came back to a new permanent covered outside area after the summer break. The newly created outside space will provide additional outdoor learning experiences for pupils. This is particularly important for enabling a smooth transition from Early Years into Years 1 and 2, so that the children can still access similar provision to what they are used to in their first year of learning at school.

Little Stoke Primary is committed to enriching the curriculum experience the children receive by providing opportunities to learn outside the classroom. The school has a well-established forest school provision for pupils from Reception to Year 6 to access on a regular basis. The school believes that these out of classroom opportunities not only support the pupils’ learning in the curriculum but also are essential for helping to support positive mental health and well-being.

In related news to the use of outside spaces, after a summer which was probably wetter than most hoped, the children of Little Stoke came back to a bumper supply of vegetables in their growing garden this September. The children will now harvest the crop, some of which will be prepared and cooked by the pupils so they can enjoy the fruits (and vegetables!) of their hard work nurturing their planting beds before the summer. There is of course also a lot of weeding to be done, which the children have already started in earnest!
